NovaSolar is the result of a management and asset acquisition of its predecessor, OptiSolar. OptiSolar occupies a special place in the history of solar PV industry. Founded in part in 2006 by Hewlett Packard CTO Dr. Marvin Keshner, it was the first company in the industry with an explicit goal to provide fully integrated turnkey technology solutions by taking advantage of the synergy along the entire value chain.
Like OptiSolar, NovaSolar’s focus is to make solar energy cost competitive with fossil fuel generation of electricity—particularly daytime peak electricity. This requires both dramatic reductions in the cost of a solar installation and 25 year reliability.
NovaSolar’s team has since developed breakthrough amorphous Silicon (a-Si) thin film technologies, commercialized low cost high reliability a-Si panels, and rethought solar farm balance of system (BOS) with innovative design and installation techniques, altogether achieving one of the lowest costs per kWh for utility scale applications.
